Video games have long ceased to be merely a pastime for teenagers. Today, they represent a full-fledged cultural environment capable of addressing profound themes and evoking a wide range of emotions. In recent years, there has been a clear trend towards recognising video games as a form of art, comparable to cinema and literature. One striking example is the game "The Last of Us," which not only offers stunning graphics and captivating gameplay but also raises important questions about human nature, morality, and sacrifice. The game's narrative immerses players in a post-apocalyptic world where every decision has consequences. Such projects pose questions that are not always easy to answer and compel us to reflect on what it means to be human. Moreover, video games are becoming a platform for telling unique stories. Games like "Journey" or "Celeste" utilise mechanics to convey emotional experiences, emphasising the player's interaction with the surrounding world. The music, visual style, and storyline in these games work in perfect harmony, creating unforgettable impressions. The social aspect of video games cannot be overlooked either. They bring people together, creating communities and allowing players to interact with one another, regardless of distance. Multiplayer games, such as "Fortnite" or "World of Warcraft," not only offer engaging gameplay but also serve as venues for communication, collaboration, and even friendship. However, critics of video games point to potential negative consequences, such as addiction and impacts on mental health. It is essential to remember that, as with any other form of art, it all depends on how we use this medium. A balance between entertainment and responsibility is where a conscious attitude towards gaming begins. Thus, video games today are not just a way to kill time but a powerful tool for self-expression, learning, and social interaction. They continue to evolve, and with each passing year, more people are beginning to recognise their significance as a cultural phenomenon. Video games open new horizons, prompting us to rethink our familiar notions of the world and ourselves.
